The reason is simple: more and more requests started coming in that clearly did not look like normal users. They looked more like accounts created for spam, SEO, link building, promoting random services, automated campaigns, or mass account creation.

This problem had been visible for some time, and I tried different ways to limit it. In the end, it turned out that there was no other reasonable option than to put AI + the community to work.

Unfortunately, a free account is not really “free” in the technical sense. It burns 100 BLURT. Public Coupon Funds are not there so SEO people or spammers can create link-building accounts for themselves. If someone wants to publish articles mainly for SEO and link building, they are of course free to do that, but they should pay for account creation with their own tokens.

That is why, from today, the form works a little differently.

A person who wants to create an account enters their email address and then has a short conversation with an AI chat. The result of that conversation will decide what happens next. If everything looks fine, the account creation link will be granted automatically. But if the new user triggers suspicion, the bot will send the request to manual review.

And this is where help from the community will be useful.

I am looking for trusted reviewers — people who can occasionally look at such requests and decide whether someone should receive a voucher to create an account.

This is not some complicated technical role. It is mostly common sense and clicking approve or reject. Sometimes it may also mean asking a few additional questions.

Does the person sound like a normal user?

Do they want to write, blog, comment, and build something on Blurt?

Or does it immediately smell like spam, SEO, mass advertising, or an attempt to use a free account only for self-promotion?

If the request looks good, the reviewer can approve it and the user will receive a private voucher. If the request looks bad, it can be rejected. In that case, the person will receive information that this free path was not accepted, but they can still use other options — ask someone from the community, ask on Discord, or create an account through a paid option.

Reviewer notifications appear on Blurt as short mentions with the usernames of all reviewers, like here:

It is simply a message that a new request is waiting for review. If someone has already handled it, a note will appear underneath saying that the case has been resolved, so the others do not have to enter the panel unnecessarily.

The goal is not to make life harder for new users. Quite the opposite — the goal is for regular people to still be able to join Blurt easily, while limiting the number of accounts handed out to spammers and bots.

If you have a Blurt account, know the community a little, and want to help onboard new users, apply to become a reviewer under this post.

The most useful people will be those who have some sense of judgment, do not reject every new user automatically, but also understand that spam and mass account creation really do harm the platform.

The more trusted people help with this process, the easier it will be to let real users in while cutting off those who want to use Blurt only as another dumping ground for links. At the same time, I want to make it clear that I will only add people whom I personally recognize as real users and reliable members of the community, or people vouched for by someone like that.

I hope this system will work better, and that from now on, the accounts being created will mostly belong to people who truly want to join us and become valuable members of the community, rather than just spam.

All of this is still a bit of an experiment, so we will see how it goes. The system also still needs some calibration, so that it catches the most obvious signals of mass account creation. I will be working on it over the coming days and weeks. We will see whether this solution works. If not, then maybe we will have to move to fully manual verification.

You are welcome to join in. By becoming a reviewer, everyone has a chance to have a real impact on who gets to create accounts, and also to support new users on Blurt from the very beginning.

Friends May Come and Go

Some friends may come, and eventually go. They didn't look back, not even sending messages. Even if you try to maintain the friendship, but the fact that they won't even open your message shows that the friendship isn't what it used to be anymore. It might be difficult to end the friendship but at times, it is what needs to be done. There are more people out there whom you will meet, and worth the attention you'll about to give.

It's still cold early in the morning. "Amihan" is still at work despite the summer already prevailing. There are forecasts that 50°C heat index is possible in our province, which happens during summer. I hope it won't happen. It's forecast after all.

Improvement

The park isn't that beautiful anymore. I can still remember when it had undergone revamp 20 years ago. The beauty was maintained after that. Even during the pandemic times, the park is still beautiful. It became dry with the absence of grasses during the last few years. Even the bricks got pulled up, and almost removed. It used to be red, and it looks like dust nowadays.

Guten Tag zusammen,

hier kommt Teil 18 meiner monatlichen Witness-Server-Spende für Elli (@elkezaksek).

Es ist schon wieder ein Monat vergangen, und mein kleiner Witness-Pi war in dieser Zeit fleißig damit beschäftigt, Blöcke zu signieren.

Dieser Monat war leider auch wieder nicht der beste. Mein Provider hatte teilweise bis zu sechs Ausfälle an einem einzigen Tag. Dadurch wurden erneut einige Blöcke verpasst. Ich hoffe wirklich, dass ich bald endlich meinen Glasfaseranschluss bekomme. Dann sollte das Ganze deutlich stabiler laufen.

Ansonsten war diesen Monat nicht besonders viel los. Ich habe allen meinen RasPis ein Upgrade gegönnt, wobei das beim RasPi 2, der als Pi-hole dient, gefühlt eine Ewigkeit gedauert hat. Außerdem bin ich weiterhin dabei, die Wohnung auszumisten und aufzuräumen. Über die Jahrzehnte hat sich einfach so viel unnötiger Kram angesammelt, dass es langsam wirklich Zeit wurde.

Dabei habe ich mir wohl auch eine alte Verletzung im Arm wieder aufgerissen. Meine Hand ist jedenfalls leicht taub und selbst bei kleinen Aktivitäten zieht es ordentlich im Arm. Ich werde die Tage wohl mal beim Onkel Doktor vorbeischauen.

Good day everyone,

Here is part 18 of my monthly Witness server donation for Elli (@elkezaksek).

Another month has already passed, and during that time my little Witness Pi has been busy signing blocks.

Unfortunately, this month wasn't much better either. My ISP had as many as six outages in a single day at times, which meant that several blocks were missed once again. I'm really hoping I'll finally get my fiber optic connection soon. That should make everything a lot more stable.

Other than that, not much happened this month. I treated all of my Raspberry Pis to an upgrade, although the Raspberry Pi 2 that's running Pi-hole felt like it took forever to finish. I'm also still in the process of decluttering and tidying up my apartment. Over the decades, I've accumulated so much unnecessary stuff that it was definitely time to start getting rid of it.

In the process, I seem to have aggravated an old arm injury. My hand has been slightly numb, and even light activities cause a strong pulling pain in my arm. I'll probably go see the doctor in the next few days and have it checked out.

Happy August HIVE Powerup Day! While I could have waited until tomorrow morning to power up my nice chunk of HIVE, given that today, July 31st, is my birthday, I really wanted to do it now. To celebrate my 36th participation in total, and my 34th consecutive participation in our fun and useful monthly Hive tradition, I just powered up a whopping 13,793.679 HIVE, which brought me to the new total of 34,696.933 Hive Power! This is a huge 13,738.09 HIVE more than I powered up last month, and most of it came from withdrawing my 656.080 HBD from Savings and swapping it for HIVE, to power up today!

After my July HPUD, I had 20,232.030 HP, which means that I gained a gigantic +14,464.903 HP within the span of the last month! This is +13,811.428 HP than I gained the month before! With my new total of 34,696.933 Hive Power, I should now receive 139.077-146.016 HP monthly in passive income, based on a 4.81-5.05% APR, which is a very notable jump indeed!

Phoenix has arrived! More on that in a minute but first, you can see from this next picture that Cyle was not concerned, at least at first……

Bill got a later start than planned and didn’t arrive until noon. It was good to see him and I did wish he could have stayed, but they are leaving tomorrow for Hungary. 🇭🇺 With Agi having to work today, that’s left a bit of packing on Bill’s plate. Plus his washing machine broke down, so he had to get a part on the way home from us, repair it and then start laundry! So much to do and so little time to do it! 🙀

Phoenix meanwhile, spent the afternoon whining and crying for Bill. This is typical behavior for her as she does have separation anxiety. As of this writing, she has stopped. She sat for a few hours looking for him to come back. When I took her out for a walk, she dragged me to where she last saw him and then sniffed the car’s trail, even to where you have to back up into the other part of the driveway to then go forward out into the road. She has a very good nose on her! Poor girl-she will miss them but she knows we are part of the family too and will be content until they return.

As for Cot and Cyle-they are being cautious. They want to make sure Phoenix is who she is and by this evening, they’ll be hanging out together.

Our adventures begin! We do enjoy her company and she will spend the days and evenings by our side. She is a sweet girl! Spoiled too!

Then I saw a scroll in the right hand of the One seated on the throne. It had writing on both sides and was sealed with seven seals. And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?”
But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or look inside it. And I began to weep bitterly, because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or look inside it.
Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed to open the scroll and its seven seals.”
Then I saw a Lamb who appeared to have been slain, standing in the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. The Lamb had seven horns and seven eyes, which represent the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth. And He came and took the scroll from the right hand of the One seated on the throne.
