How it goes:

After a long day of work, I covered about 250 kilometers today. Despite the fatigue of the long journey, my mind was instantly refreshed by seeing the play of lights in the city at night. I captured some wonderful moments on my camera while rushing towards my destination.

In the first picture, you can see the night view of the city taken from the elevated expressway. From above to far and wide, the highway was floating in the bright light of sodium and headlights. The orderly movement of various small and large vehicles gave the city a different and lively look.

The second picture is of a food shop called Chicken Street. The crowd was noticeable from a distance. Lately, I have noticed that people have developed a special attraction towards street food, especially fried or grilled chicken. Such presence of food lovers even late at night is quite enjoyable.

The last picture is of the calm atmosphere of the night in front of a well-known company. The aesthetic lighting of the tall modern building and the cars rushing past one by one look extraordinary in a word.
All in all, these scenes, framed during the night journey, turned the tiring day into a great memory.

🧨 WHY BURN?

Because sometimes the most degen thing you can do in crypto isn’t accumulating more tokens.

Sometimes it’s deliberately destroying the rewards you could have taken for yourself. ☠️

Crypto is usually built around accumulation: stack more, earn more, compound more, increase the bag, make number go up. 📈💰 But burning introduces a completely different dynamic.

Instead of asking “How much can I extract?”, you ask:

“How much can I deliberately remove?” 🔥

That’s what makes this experiment interesting.

I’m turning my daily BLURT activity into a tiny recurring burn machine. ⚙️🔥 It isn’t some gigantic protocol upgrade or complicated tokenomics proposal. It’s a simple behavioral experiment: what happens if I voluntarily redirect 100% of my posting rewards to @null every single day?

Maybe the burn becomes significant.

Maybe it stays relatively small.

If P = participating BLURTarians and B = average BLURT burned per participant per day:

I still think using a laptop as a home server is a great idea. It has low power consumption, takes up very little space, and the battery works as a small built-in UPS. In my case, the Dell Latitude is running not only my Blurt Witness Node, but also several other services, so instead of sitting unused in a drawer, the machine has found a pretty useful second life.

The problem started when I thought: since the laptop already has a screen, it would be nice to occasionally use it normally as well — launch the desktop environment, check something locally, then close the lid and leave it running as a server again.

And that’s where things started getting weird.

In theory, everything was configured properly: sleep was disabled, suspend and hibernation were disabled, and the system was supposed to ignore the lid being closed.

And yet, after using the graphical environment and closing the laptop, the server would sometimes suddenly disappear from the network. SSH stopped responding, the screen would not wake up after opening the lid again, and it looked as if the whole computer had frozen or shut down.

The worst part was that it didn’t happen every single time.

You could close the lid several times and everything would work perfectly — and then the next time, the server would simply disappear.

For a while, I suspected almost everything: the network card, Ethernet power saving, WireGuard, drivers, NetworkManager, IP conflicts, and even hardware issues.

Only after digging deeper into the logs did something interesting become clear: Debian itself was not actually entering suspend in the normal way.

After the Lid closed event, parts of the system were still running — processes, cron jobs, sshd, and so on.

The problem appeared specifically after starting the graphical desktop environment.

It turned out that besides the system-level power management, the desktop environment / LightDM login manager also has its own logic for handling lid events.

So you can carefully configure systemd-logind, disable suspend completely, assume the problem is solved — and then the GUI takes over the lid event and does something entirely different.

The result was especially nasty because the laptop was not always simply “off”.

It could end up in a strange state where parts of the system were still alive, but from the outside the server was basically unreachable.

And for a Witness, even a few minutes of that kind of behavior can already mean missed blocks.

And yes — I lost a few blocks because of it.

So if anyone ever wants to follow a similar path and turn an old laptop into a server, one piece of advice: disabling sleep in just one place is not enough.

You should check:

– systemd/logind,
– suspend and hibernation settings,
– desktop environment power settings,
– the login manager,
– network card behavior after closing the lid.

And most importantly, do a real-world test: start the GUI, log out, close the lid, and from another computer check whether SSH and all your services are still running after several or even fifteen minutes.

In my case, the best final approach was to treat the laptop primarily as a headless server.

The graphical environment is still available and I can start it whenever I need it, but it is no longer the machine’s default way of working.

Such a small thing — a laptop lid.

And somehow it caused more trouble than the Witness Node itself. 😄

So if you are planning to turn an old laptop into a home server: I definitely recommend it, but don’t trust the lid. 😉

A few days ago, a gathering of dear relatives was held at my house. Close relatives came to visit our house together. When dear people came to the house, the atmosphere instantly became lively. Their arrival created a beautiful atmosphere of busyness and chat throughout the day.

I had taken up a big cooking event to entertain my relatives. I prepared various delicious dishes for them with my own hands. For afternoon snack, various types of crunchy food, pitha, biscuits and sauces were served on the table. Everyone from the youngest members of the house to the elders enjoyed those dishes with joy.

After the feeding of the guests was over, when the little children sat down to eat at the dining table, the time became the most joyful. The smiles on their faces after seeing the various dishes arranged on the table made the atmosphere even more lively. These moments of joy and laughter, when all the family members, young and old, sit together at the dining table, are forever etched in our memories.

Such sweet chats and family bonding with relatives give a strange peace to the mind. It is a wonderful feeling to receive such a beautiful afternoon gift in the midst of a busy life. The day was memorable for us with the smiles and love on everyone's faces.
